KC Chemistry

Safety

Built for real connection, built to be safe

Here's exactly how KC Chemistry protects you, from your first match to your first date.

Getting matched safely

  • Match on substance, not looks first. You're surfaced to each other by what you say — icebreaker prompts and shared interests — not by a photo. Video only happens after you both opt in.
  • Age and gender are yours to set. 18+ is required and verified at signup. You choose how you describe yourself, who you'd like to meet, and the age range you're open to. Nobody outside those preferences reaches you.
  • Budget stays private until it matters. Your spending comfort never filters people — it only narrows venue suggestions after you've already matched.
  • Passing is silent. If you skip someone, they're never told. They simply drop out of your queue for 30 days.

On the video call

  • Cameras open only after both people say hello, and either person can end a Spark at any moment — no explanation owed.
  • Test your camera and mic before you go live, and see a clear on-air indicator the whole time you're on camera.
  • A Report button sits right on the call screen. Tapping it ends the call for you immediately — you never have to wait for the other person.
  • Recording, screenshotting, or resharing someone's Spark is against the Club Rules and gets accounts removed.

Planning the first date

  • First plans happen at a featured Kansas City restaurant, bar, café, or nightlife venue — never a home or other private location.
  • You can message inside the app before you meet, so nobody goes from a two-minute call straight to a table with a stranger.
  • We never share your exact location, phone number, or private Spark answers with your match.

During the date

  • Share Date Details sends your venue, address, time, and your match's first name to a trusted contact you pick. Your match is never told that you shared, or with whom.
  • About midway through the date window, we send one quiet “How's it going?” nudge with two taps: Good, or I need to leave.
  • Tapping “I need to leave” never alerts your date or the venue. You get discreet options instead — a fake incoming call, a text to your emergency contact, directions out, or 911.
  • Don't want the nudge? Turn check-ins off any time under Safety on your Profile.

Accountability

  • Block someone and they disappear from both queues instantly and their profile is hidden. No report required, and they're never notified.
  • Every report is read by a real person: KC Chemistry is independently run. When you report something, it comes to us directly and we look at it ourselves — not an automated system, not a large moderation team, just us taking it seriously.
  • If someone collects three or more reports within 30 days, their account goes on a precautionary hold pending review.

No-shows are handled separately

  • Missed dates are a reliability issue, not a safety one, and they're tracked apart from reports.
  • Cancel in the app at least two hours ahead. A missed plan with no cancellation is a no-show, and two in a row remove you from KC Chemistry.

What we don't do

  • We don't run ID verification or background checks. We're a small, independent app, and we don't have the infrastructure (or honestly, the appetite) to collect or store that kind of sensitive information.
  • What we do instead: live video means you see a real person, in real time, before you ever agree to meet — and every safety feature above is designed around that.

If you're in danger right now

Call 911. Any Kansas City venue will help you get to your car — staff do this every night, and you never have to explain why.

Every member agrees to the Chemistry Club Rules before their first Spark. You can review or manage your safety settings on your Profile.
